Blockchain and Environmental Management

The greening of the world is a collective effort that must be accomplished with those who are affected the most by the problems, communities that would see a significant and lasting improvement in their quality of life if actions were taken. Setting goals and taking actions that impact communities is important for NGOs and governments. Environmental Impact Reporting can help NGOs better reach those who are in need of information. Merely making an EIR is a significant step forward, and it is required by major international events.

A system and method for providing user-specified data to participating venues includes a system services environment having a website or App, and that facilitates communication between a user and a venue. The system includes functionality for uploading a plurality of user preferences for storage by the system environment server and/or decentralized blockchain nodes, identifying the presence of each user interface device that is physically located at or near a venue, generating a report containing the cumulative favorite selections within each preference category submitted by each of identified user interface devices, submitting the report to the venue and/or environmental devices and/or nodes, and changing the environmental conditions of the venue in real time based on the report. HapPhi is heavily involved in the blockchain.

What is Blockchain?

The three components of Blockchain are linked by the concept of a “Block”. Block forms a common unit of account for using cryptocurrency in transactions and in storing information that can be analyzed and searched. Each block stores data that is considered a set of transactions in a chronological order. Since all transactions in a block are linked together, it is considered to be a block of data that forms the “chain” of a cryptocurrency.

Blockchains store information on the blockchain in blocks that are linked with each other. Information in a block on a blockchain is linked with other information in that block. These chains or links are called chains. Information in a block is connected to other information in that block through a process known as cryptocurrency mining.

Why Blockchain Matters

There are numerous reasons why blockchain technology is becoming an increasingly important component of many environmental business practices. You'll note that these first two are very long paragraphs. That is because the effects of blockchain on the environment are enormous.

There are huge "green" benefits to using blockchain. There are also enormous "green" risks to not using blockchain. That is because blockchain is a powerful tool that we, as individuals and as companies, have at our disposal to improve, repair and protect our environment. We do not have to "play god" with the environment.

Environmental Management

Virtual Docking Stations

Based on the concept of decentralized infrastructure, a virtual docking station network is envisioned that allows attendees to attach and remove devices and develop an IoT network without requiring a central station. Users of these docking stations would register and be assigned a unique and persistent identification (VIN). Users would interact with the stations via various device types. The VIN can either be stored in a personal device or maintained by the station. The VIN can be updated or reset by station operators as well as user profiles.

The Future of Environmental Management

The regulatory framework for environmental management in the U.S. could be significantly simplified with blockchain applications. Initiatives such as LEED, NETMeets, EAB, BSMI and EISM provide opportunities for presenting green credentials that are related to the use of renewable energy and/or those that improve the environment. However, a significant portion of the document containing the environmental requirements for such certifications can be found on company websites or their procurement policies and/or in secondary documentation. Blockchain technology could be utilized to present the same requirements through a few simple instructions to interested parties while preserving complete compliance, data integrity and privacy.

Conclusion

The greening of the world is a collective effort that must happen together and with those who are most impacted by the issues at hand, the communities who would see a noticeable and lasting difference in their quality of life if actions are taken.

It is important for organizations and governments to set goals and to take action that makes a difference to communities. By partnering with Environmental Impact Reporting, NGOs can better mobilize those in need of information in the most effective and efficient way possible.

Environmental Impact Reporting is a step in the right direction to making a big impact and a requirement for major international events to have an EIR.
