A Venn Diagram of Artists' Music to Add to Your Playlist

The Venn diagram above shows the overlap between two famous musicians’ lists: one from Bob Dylan (on the left) and one from Beyonce (on the right). Both have released new music this year that falls outside of their usual categories. A lot of people love both modern pop music and classic folk ballads — but how many of those people also love trap rap? That’s why we created this Venn diagram combining two artists’ lists for you to explore your own listening tastes with ease. Click on any song title or album cover icon to listen to it on Spotify!

Today, more than ever, people are listening to music in new ways. Streaming services like Spotify and Pandora are changing the way we discover music, and artists are finding new ways to share their work with fans. Vinyl records have made a comeback recently as well, with sales of vinyl albums rising by almost 20 percent in 2014 alone. Music has never been so accessible and so fragmented at the same time. The Venn diagram above shows the overlap between two famous musicians’ lists: one from Bob Dylan (on the left) and one from Beyonce (on the right). Both have released new music this year that falls outside of their usual categories. Bob Dylan’s Surprise Album: “Shadows in the Night”

The first artist we’re looking at is American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. In 2015, he released a new album called “Shadows in the Night” that surprised many of his fans. It’s a collection of cover songs from the Great American Songbook, the classic songbook of American musical theater. The album includes covers of songs like “I’m a Fool to Want You,” “Autumn Leaves,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” Those songs might sound familiar to you even if you aren’t necessarily a fan of classic music — and that’s because other artists have recorded them as well. That’s what makes “Shadows in the Night” such a great album — many of the songs are instantly recognizable, but you probably didn’t realize they came from the Great American Songbook.

Beyonce’s Surprise Album: “Beyonce”

The second artist we’re looking at is the queen of surprise releases herself: Beyonce. Beyonce’s latest album, “Beyonce,” was released with no prior announcement. The album features 14 songs, including one collaboration with her husband, Jay-Z. The tracklist includes a variety of songs, but also a few surprises. For example, the album includes a cover of the classic song “I Was Made to Love Her” by Stevie Wonder, as well as a remix of “Standing in the Shadow of Love,” a song that has never been released before.

What You Should Add to Your Playlist Now

Now that you know more about these two albums, you might be wondering: what should I add to my own playlist? These two albums are a good place to start with your exploration of new music. You’ll find a lot of songs that you’ll recognize but have never heard before. You can also use this Venn diagram to explore other artists’ music by clicking on the bubbles in the middle.
